Call for Applications: SANORD Internship Opportunity 2026

The Southern African–Nordic Centre (SANORD) is pleased to announce a 6-month internship opportunity at the SANORD Central Office (SCO), based at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) in Cape Town, South Africa.

This opportunity is open exclusively to students from SANORD member institutions in the Nordic region. It is intended for motivated Master’s students with a keen interest in international higher education collaboration, communication, and intercultural engagement.

Nomination and Endorsement Process

All applicants must be formally nominated by their institution’s SANORD contact person. Applications must also be endorsed by the university through its International Office or equivalent structure.

Individual applications submitted without institutional nomination and endorsement will not be considered. Candidates are encouraged to contact the SANORD representative or International Office at their home institution to initiate the nomination process and confirm eligibility.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:
  • Be currently enrolled in a Master’s degree programme (preferably in
    the second year).
  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields such as Intercultural
    Communication, Journalism, Communication, etc.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in English (written and spoken).
  • Possess strong communication skills and familiarity with social media platforms.
  • Have an interest in text editing, web content management, and basic CMS tools.
  • Be competent in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Show motivation to contribute to SANORD’s digital communication platforms.
  • Be independent, proactive, and solution-oriented.
  • Be comfortable working in a multicultural and international environment.
  • Show responsible consideration for their physical and mental well-being.
  • Be open to Southern African cultural experiences.
  • Be willing to stay in on-campus student accommodation.

SANORD Will Provide

  • Registration at UWC with access to all university facilities.
  • On-campus accommodation.
  • A monthly stipend of R8 500.
  • Medical insurance and access to preferred healthcare facilities.
  • Participation in relevant academic and scholarly events.

Institutional Responsibilities

In addition to providing formal nomination and endorsement, the applicant’s home institution is expected to:
  • Nordic institutions nominating candidates must be willing to offer partial scholarships or financial support to help cover expenses not funded by the SANORD Central Office.
  • Applicants are advised to consult their International Office regarding available support and ensure this is in place before applying.

Important dates:

  • Semester 1 intake (submission date: 30 September 2025) commencement date: 15 January 2026.
  • Semester 2 (submission date: 20 February 206) commencement date: 15 July 2026.
