10th SANORD Annual International Conference - Call for Paper Abstracts, Workshops or Panels & Special Interest Groups

Call for Paper Abstracts, Workshops or Panels & Special Interest Groups:

The Southern African-Nordic Centre (SANORD) is a non-profit membership organisation of institutions of higher education and research for all Nordic countries and southern Africa. The network´s aim is to support and promote Nordic and southern African cooperation. There are currently 46 members. SANORD is committed to advancing strategic, multilateral academic collaboration between institutions in the two regions, as they seek to address new local and global challenges of innovation and development. SANORD activities are based on shared fundamental values of democracy, social equity, and academic engagement, and on the deep relationships of trust built up between the regions over many years. SANORD central office is located at University of Western Cape (UWC) in Cape Town, South Africa.

Conference Theme:

“The Role of Universities in Research & Technology Transfer to Improve Livelihoods in Southern Africa”

Conference Sub Themes:

1. Challenges faced by universities in attracting international funding for research.

2. Science Technology Engineering Mathematics (STEM) in transforming university research outputs.

3. Role of researchers in the Southern African Diaspora in fostering multinational collaborative research.

4. Challenges to SADC and Nordic countries in commercialization of research outputs.

5. The role of research in improving livelihoods

6. New epistemologies and new forms of knowledge within the North-South dialogue

7. Adding value to North South collaborations

8. Studies of science, technology and society in post-colonial contexts

Paper Abstracts, and proposals for Workshops or Panels are now invited for consideration by the programme committee. In addition, SANORD invites proposals for forming “SANORD Interest Groups”. For instructions and guidelines see below.

Invitation for Paper Abstracts:

Participants are invited to submit abstracts for academic papers or presentations addressing the conference main theme or any of the sub-themes, to be presented in parallel conference sessions. The abstract shall be submitted according to the following guidelines and will be reviewed by the conference committee.

Invitation for proposals on workshops or panels

Participants are invited to submit proposals for panels or workshops, to be held in parallel conference sessions. The proposal shall be submitted according to the following guidelines​ and will be reviewed by the conference committee.

Invitation to submit proposals on Special Research Interest Groups

SANORD has the ambition to provide a platform for strengthening academic collaboration. Participants are therefore invited to submit proposals on “SANORD interest groups”. The purpose is to gather persons from SANORD member institutions (preferably North – South) interested in collaboration within for example an academic are or an administrative area, and that the SANORD conference can serve as a starting point. The proposal shall be submitted according to the following guidelines and will be reviewed by the Conference Committee.

All the proposals and abstracts must be submitted to SANORD2017@nust.ac.zw.

Deadline for submissions of abstracts and proposals is 15 J​uly 2017.

Announcement of selected proposals is 15 August 2017.

Registration for the conference

Registration will open on 01 June 2017

Registration will close on 01 November 2017

The conference registration fee excludes your hotel accommodation and travel expenses. The registration fee and payment process will be made available soon.
